Tracky Isn't Just for Gamers

6 min read

Every piece of Tracky's marketing, including most of this site, leads with League of Legends, Dota 2, Smite, and Minecraft. That's the right call: it's the audience that will actually find the app, and the game packs are genuinely deep. But it undersells what's underneath them.

Strip away the four built-in packs and what's left is a plain engine: a grid of buttons, each one holding an image you choose, each one counting down and resetting on a click or a hotkey, saved across five profiles you can jump between instantly. Nothing about that description mentions a game. It doesn't need to.

Streaming

Tracky is frameless, transparent, and click-through by default, which is exactly what a stream overlay needs to be. A "starting soon" countdown, a subathon clock, a BRB screen with a timer built in: all of it is just a profile with different art loaded into the same grid you'd use for tracking Baron. Because it sits on top of whatever's running underneath, it captures cleanly in OBS without any extra window-capture configuration.

Tabletop

A Dungeons & Dragons table runs on timers nobody tracks well: spell durations, turn order, the exact round a concentration check comes back around. A chess clock is a timer with exactly two buttons. A board game with phase limits is a timer with as many buttons as it has phases. Build a profile once, label the slots with tooltip names instead of hotkey letters, and the grid works exactly the same as it does for a jungle camp, because underneath, it's the same feature.

Everyday use

Not everything needs a game pack. A Pomodoro session is a 25-minute timer with a custom icon. A kitchen running three things at once is three timer slots instead of three phones propped against the backsplash. Interval training, study blocks, meditation sessions, a reminder to check on a fish tank or water a plant: none of it is a stretch, because none of it asks the app to do anything different than what it already does for a Flash cooldown.

The point

The games aren't the product. They're the first four things someone loaded into it. If you can picture a grid of things that need to count down and reset, Tracky can probably already do it; you're just choosing different pictures.

Download Tracky and build a blank profile to see what we mean.
